What to Expect at the CrossFit Games 2021

health tips for students

CrossFit Games 2021 is nearing and many participants are excited. Besides the usual competitions like the men's, women's events will also take place. We're all familiar with the Reebok's equipment, the Pegboard contest, and the Cutting system. But what do we know about the womens' competition? Continue reading to find out! Keep checking the CrossFit news section for the latest updates about the competition.

Women are competing

The 2021 Crossfit Games' women's competition started this morning with the swim race. Jonne Koski, Tia-Clair Toomey Orr, and TiaClair Toomey Orr were the winners in the first event. Koski took the overall title after she held her lead through the entire competition. Tall and Eramoo O'Connell came in second and third, respectively. It was the first Games women's event and the women hoped to complete it.

The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Other contenders are Australian athlete Kara Saunders, who finished second in Australia and eleventh worldwide in 2020. Andrea Nisler is another rising star. She competed in the team category in 2018 and placed third in the United States, and 15th overall in 2020. Aside from these athletes, the Women’s competition will also include a newcomer, Sara Sigmundsdottir, an Icelandan competitor, who won first place at the World Crossfit Games earlier.

Pegboard contest

Pegboard competition at Crossfit Games 2021 was the first. The Games added it to their summer Olympic program, along with double-unders (dumbbell overhead squats) and pegboard. Toomey-Orr set the record for most wins in a single Games event with 30. Sager won Event 11 and became the Games' third winner. Although there were many ties, Toomey-Orr's dominance wasn't enough to prevent him from winning the contest.

CrossFit Games athletes train by focusing on ten core physical skills: strength, flexibility and speed. Pegboard tests the grip strength and coordination of competitors. The competitors compete by holding two wooden stakes between their fingers. After completing the Pegboard, the competition was intense and athletes felt a sense of accomplishment.

Cutting system

The CrossFit Games will once again employ a cutting system for the individual competition. This is not as extreme as past Games cuts, but it is very different this year. The competition consists of 15 individual events, so a first cut to 30 athletes is likely after the seventh or eighth event. One question that remains is how CrossFit will adjust the points distribution after cuts. It's probable that the scoring table used for the 2019 games will remain nearly the same as the one used in 2021.

This year's CrossFit Games Field includes 236 athletes. This is the largest field in its history. The first six events result in major cuts. The field is now reduced to 75. The top thirty athletes then compete in a sprint team to determine the top 10. The top 20 athletes then compete in six more events. Castro's system has been criticized by veterans Games athletes who feel that the cuts are too significant.

Reebok's equipment

Reebok has released new CrossFit Games shoes, clothing and equipment. The new shoes are the Nano X1. They can be used for multiple fitness goals. Reebok describes this shoe as the "shoe of fitness", but it actually feels more like an ordinary training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar fabric is used for the upper, which promotes breathability and durability. The firm midsole and RopePro tech enhance the responsiveness of the shoes.

CrossFit's contract with Reebok will expire at the end 2020. The Games will no longer have a title sponsor. Reebok sponsored the Games for more a decade. Now, it is obvious that the company will lessen its involvement. Reebok won't be funding the Games' prize fund, but will continue making all athletic apparel and equipment worn athletes by, including the Reebok gear. However, Reebok CrossFit Games will no longer be called the company.

FAQ

How many calories do I need to eat each day?

This can vary from person to person. The average is 2000 - 2500 calories per day. Based on your age, gender, height and activity level, you will need to calculate how many calories you require.

What is your favorite workout to build muscle mass?

The best way to improve your workouts is to choose exercises that challenge all your major muscle groups. This ensures that you are always working hard during each session.

To keep track of what you have done, use an app called MyFitnessPal. It allows you to log everything from calories burned to weight lifting. It also allows you to create meal plans customized for your goals.

Do I have to exercise every single day?

No! Do at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity five days a week. This could be walking fast enough so you feel slightly out breath or cycling hard enough to sweat.
